Hi! I'm Sophie.
I'm a qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer and Nutritionist, specialising in sustainable weight management.
Having been an active child and teenager, I gave up my activities when my education became more demanding.
As I got older, I became a bit lazy. I've had a gym membership for as long as I can remember, for countless different gyms. The problem was that I wasn't motivated and didn't enjoy exercise because I hadn't found something I really liked. I thought going to the gym was all about running, and for years made the excuse "I wasn't born to be a runner".
I spent years complaining that I wasn't happy in myself; I wanted to lose weight, I always felt tired and lethargic, and I was barely fit enough to climb a flight of stairs without getting out of breath.
A change in my personal life sparked a real need for a kickstart, so I bought a book by The Body Coach. I followed the recipes for about a month and lost weight, improved my skin and my mood and energy levels went through the roof! I couldn't believe it. I felt fantastic in myself, I was getting compliments left, right and centre, and I followed the cardio workouts in the book so became more consistent with going to the gym. I had also started kickboxing and found an instant love for the sport, increasing my training from once to 2/3 times a week.
After a couple of months I decided to buy the paid plan, which I followed religiously for the first 30 days. For the first time since I was a teenager, I felt really proud of what I'd achieved and how I looked and felt.
A tumble off the wagon
Very soon after I started Month 2; I fell spectacularly off the wagon. I put on some of the weight I'd worked so hard to lose, and I got a flu which seemed to last for months.
I could have let that derail me, but I got back on the horse and back into the gym. Without knowing what I should eat, the gym did a little bit of good but didn't have the impact I'd hoped. So, I decided to start learning about nutrition myself, to understand what I should eat, how and when.
Over the next 18 months or so, I studied for and qualified as a Nutrition and Weight Management Adviser. On top of this I took on extra studies including Nutrition for Sports & Exercise, Pre- and Post-Natal Nutrition, Childhood Nutrition and Obesity Prevention and Behaviour Change Coaching.
I also started spending more time in the gym and discovered a new passion for resistance training. From the start of my personal journey into health and fitness I knew I wanted to train as a Personal Trainer, and I qualified in the middle of 2019.
Friends and family started asking me for advice on their health, fitness and nutrition, and I decided to establish myself professionally as a Personal Trainer & Nutritionist, to allow me to help others in the way I needed to be supported at the start of my journey. So Active Nutrition was born!
I now offer Personal Training and Nutrition support and am based at PureGym Leicester St George's Way, with a fantastic team. Fitness and nutrition really are my passions and I feel so excited to have the opportunity to support you in achieving your health, weight and lifestyle goals in the most enjoyable and sustainable way!
Who better to help you kickstart your own journey and achieve your goals than someone who's been there herself, through the ups and downs, failures and successes.
